As the long, warm days of summer begin to soften into cooler evenings, the community comes alive with a calendar full of harvest festivals, pumpkin patches, community gatherings, and outdoor adventures that make this season one of the best times of year to call Southwest Riverside County home. Whether you have lived here for years or are thinking about making the move, fall is when Murrieta truly shines.

With average high temperatures dropping from the mid-90s in August to the comfortable low 80s by October, and finally settling into the mild 70s by November, Murrieta's fall weather is about as good as it gets. The summer crowds have thinned, the sky stays a brilliant blue, and the rolling hills that surround the valley begin to take on their golden autumn glow. It is the perfect season for getting outdoors, connecting with neighbors, and enjoying everything that makes this community special.

Seasonal Adventures Pumpkin Patch

Right here in Murrieta, Seasonal Adventures sets up a full pumpkin patch each October with inflatable slides, kiddie rides, a petting zoo, and pumpkins of every shape and size. Open daily from October 1 through Halloween, it is a convenient and family-friendly spot to kick off the season without driving out of town. The kids love the bounce houses, and parents appreciate the local location.

Peltzer Pumpkin Farm

Just a short drive to Temecula, Peltzer Pumpkin Farm is a beloved local tradition now in its 30th year. Running from September 19 through October 31, the farm offers a petting farm, pony rides, train rides, free pig races, a John Deere tractor collection, and pumpkin painting. With admission at just $2 to $4, it is one of the best family outings in the region. Plan to spend a few hours — there is plenty to see and do.

Dark in the Park

The City of Murrieta hosts an annual free Halloween celebration at Town Square Park called Dark in the Park. This family-friendly evening event features live music, a light show, food vendors, and trunk-or-treating where local businesses and organizations hand out candy from decorated vehicle trunks. It is a safe, welcoming way for families with young children to enjoy Halloween festivities in the heart of the community. Typically held in late October.

Murrieta Rod Run

One of the city's most anticipated annual events, the Murrieta Rod Run takes over Historic Downtown Murrieta on Washington Avenue on the second weekend of October. With over 500 classic cars — all 1980 and older — the event features Friday night Cruise Night and Saturday's Show and Shine. Live music, food vendors, and family-friendly fun make this a can't-miss tradition. Admission is free, and proceeds benefit the Oak Grove Center for at-risk youth. Murrieta State of the City

On September 30, the Murrieta/Wildomar Chamber of Commerce presents the 2026 State of the City address at Town Square Park. This year's theme, "Murrieta on the Move," makes it a great opportunity for residents to hear directly about the city's progress and future plans.

Tacos and Tequila Festival

Hosted at Pechanga Resort Casino's Summit Events Center on September 19, this 21+ festival features unlimited gourmet tacos, tequila and mezcal tastings, live entertainment, and a silent auction. It is a fantastic way to welcome the fall season with great food and good company, just minutes from Murrieta.

The Haunted Library

The Murrieta Public Library gets into the Halloween spirit with its annual Haunted Library event — a family-friendly evening of ghostly tales, mysterious activities, and spooky fun for all ages. Located right on Town Square, it is a wonderful free event that combines community tradition with a love of reading.

Wine lovers will also appreciate harvest season in nearby Temecula Wine Country, where many vineyards host grape stomps, harvest dinners, and special fall releases throughout September and October.
